Mitacs Accelerate
Get paid at least $10,000 to work on cutting-edge AI research projects.
Mitacs Accelerate creates dynamic research collaborations between industry partners and academic institutions. As an intern, you'll work collaboratively with your academic supervisor and a partner organization on a research project while earning significant compensation.
How Carte Supports You
Carte runs Mitacs Accelerate projects with additional support to make the process as smooth as possible for students:
- Start by exploring available projects in our Mitacs Project Explorer to find opportunities that match your interests
- We either match you with a UofT professor who will supervise your project, or Carte directly supervises the project on the academic side
- We help you draft your Mitacs application, ensuring all requirements are met and your proposal is strong
- We support you through every step of the process, from project selection to application submission and beyond
Funding & Compensation
Each four to six month internship provides a research award, from which you receive at least $10,000 CAD as a stipend or salary.
Postdoctoral fellows are eligible for a minimum $15,000 CAD stipend.
Eligibility
You're eligible to participate in Mitacs Accelerate if you meet the following criteria:
- You must be a registered student or postdoctoral fellow.
- You may be eligible if you graduated within the last two years.
- Postdoctoral fellows are eligible if your PhD graduation date is less than five years before the project start date (exceptions available).
- Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, international students with a valid student visa, or international postdoctoral fellows with a valid work permit.
- Must be 18 years or older.
How Many Internships Can You Do?
Students (Undergraduate or Graduate)
Eligible for any number of internships. You must remain enrolled as a student throughout the internship and have time to commit to the project.
Postdocs
Can complete up to nine four-month internships, up to a maximum of three years total.
Graduates
Can complete up to three four-month internships within two years of your graduation date.
Important
You may not participate in more than one internship at the same time.

Application Process
When you work with Carte, we help you through the entire application process. We'll assist you in drafting your Mitacs application, ensuring all requirements are met and your proposal is strong. Applications are peer-reviewed by Mitacs and typically take approximately six to eight weeks. Proposals with multiple internships or that require revisions may take longer.

The Student CV Bank is a curated database of student profiles that we share with UofT faculty members across engineering and beyond. When professors are looking for students for research projects, assistantships, or other opportunities, they turn to our CV Bank to find qualified candidates.
How It Works
- Email us your CV with a brief note about your interests and availability
- We'll add your CV to our secure database
- Faculty members search the CV Bank when they need students
- If a professor finds your profile interesting, they'll reach out directly

- ✓ Relevant coursework and technical skills
