Funding Model
Each four- to six-month internship provides a $15,000 CAD research award (standard) or $20,000 CAD (postdoc), combining industry partner contributions with Mitacs matching funds.
Internships are repeatable, allowing for extended research collaborations. For example, three four-month internships can create a full year of funded research.
Your Role as Supervisor
As the academic supervisor, you'll provide research guidance and mentorship to the student intern while collaborating with the industry partner. This creates a valuable three-way collaboration that benefits all parties.
Faculty Training
Enhance your AI and machine learning expertise through our annual bootcamp and ongoing workshops.
Our flagship faculty training program is an annual week-long intensive in collaboration with the Data Sciences Institute, designed to equip faculty with AI and machine learning skills applicable to their research domains.
Annual ML Bootcamp
The program takes faculty members from foundational concepts through to advanced topics like reinforcement learning, with hands-on workshops and collaborative discussions throughout. Our training agenda is revised annually to incorporate emerging technologies in the field.
"I've learned more in one week than in one year of self-directed efforts, which are generally bumped off track by the nature of running a lab/teaching."
— Faculty participant, 2023
What You'll Learn
- Foundational machine learning concepts and techniques
- Advanced topics including deep learning and reinforcement learning
- Hands-on workshops with practical applications
- Collaborative learning with colleagues from diverse research backgrounds
Additional Workshops
Beyond the annual bootcamp, we offer specialized workshops on topics like large language models and domain-specific AI applications. These workshops provide opportunities for continued learning and skill development.
Why Faculty Choose Our Training
Past participants have praised the excellent instruction and the opportunity to learn alongside colleagues from diverse research backgrounds. The intensive format allows you to focus fully on learning without the distractions of running a lab or teaching responsibilities.
